아뜰리에 아키는 2024년 하반기 첫 기획전으로 오는 7월 18일부터 8월 17일까지 정인혜 개인전 《GREEN OASIS 그린 오아시스》를 개최한다. 정인혜는 일상에 깃든 자연에 대한 고찰을 작업의 주요 기조로 삼아 사실주의 혹은 표현주의 그 경계를 유희하는 작업을 선보여 왔다. 이번 전시는 아뜰리에 아키에서 선보이는 작가의 첫 번째 개인전으로, 자연이 지닌 에너지와 생명력에 대한 탐구를 회화적 언어로 재해석한 회화 작품10여 점을 비롯해 이번 개인전을 통해 처음 공개되는 82점의 새로운 회화 연작 〈 Stroll 〉까지 총 90여 점의 작품으로 구성된다.

이번 전시는 대상에 대한 작가적 고찰과 면밀한 관찰을 통해 자연을 시각적 재현의 대상을 넘어 내면의 공간을 은유하는 ‘심적 풍경’으로 전환시킨 정인혜 고유의 예술적 서사를 조명하는 자리이다. 마음의 심연을 심도 깊게 읽어내는 작가 정인혜의 작업은 자연에서 시작한다. 작가는 자연을 눈앞에 놓여진 대상으로 바라봄과 동시에 자연에 내포된 에너지를 체내화하여 이를 회화적으로 풀어낸다. 특히 작가의 작품 세계에서 빠질 수 없는 ‘선인장’은 시각적으로 재현된 대상을 넘어 촉각적, 감정적 언어가 부여된 새로운 대상으로 화면에 자리한다. 이번 개인전을 통해 새롭게 선보이는 시리즈 <거대한 선인장> 속 견고한 선인장의 형상은 외로움과 고독함을 불러일으킴과 동시에 오늘날의 현실에서 각 개인이 굳건히 딛고 살아 나가고자 하는 현대인의 모습과 작가의 내면의 의지를 은유적으로 표현한다. 더불어 이번 전시를 통해 선보이는 신작은 그간 식물의 이미지를 모으고 조합해 가상의 정원 구축하며 화면을 구성한 것에서 나아가 직접 경험하고 포착한 실존하는 자연의 장면을 캔버스에 담아내며, 자연을 바라보는 작가 고유의 시선을 가감 없이 드러낸다. 이러한 전환은 대상에 대한 세밀한 관찰에 집중하여 고유의 사유를 기록하는 작가의 회화적 태도와 방식 자체를 좀 더 직접적으로 보여준다.

“여전히 선인장을 그리고 있다. 선인장은 많은 사람들에게 힘과 내구성을 상징하고 그림 안에선 내면의 강인함과 끈기를 보여준다고 생각한다. 이번 작품 중거대한 선인장 ? 코끼리 선인장> 속 선인장은 보다 더 거대하고 우직한 모습을 담고 있다. 때로는 외로움과 고독함이 느껴지지만, 자연 속에서 홀로 있을 때 외부의 어려움에도 불구하고 살아남을 수 있는 견고함을 보여준다.” / 2024 정인혜

전시 《GREEN OASIS 그린 오아시스》를 통해 새롭게 선보이는 < Stroll > 시리즈는 2023년부터 2024년까지 진행된 일련의 회화 작업으로, 이전보다 확장된 규모와 함께 보다 풍성하고 섬세한 면모를 지니고 있다. 작가는 자연에 대한 공감각적 심상을 드러내며 나무와 주변의 수풀들, 그 사이로 보이는 하늘과 빛의 머무름, 바람의 움직임을 담아낸다. 특별히 아름답지도, 감동적이지도 않은 일상 속 찰나의 장면이 담긴 82점은 각각의 대상으로서 존재함과 동시에 마치 오아시스를 마주한듯 새로운 차원의 공간을 제시한다. 메마른 가시들은 오히려 따뜻하고 포근한 촉각을 불러일으키며, 마치 자연을 어루만지는듯한 정인혜 고유의 공감각적 심상은 화면 속 대상과 거리를 더욱 좁히고 관객을 자연 속으로 끌어드린다.

90년생 작가 정인혜(b.1990, South Korea)의 작업에서 가장 주요하게 활용되는 요소인 선인장은 작가의 시선을 통해 구축된 외부적 인상에 의해 작품으로 발현된다. 내적 서사와 감정을 기반으로 구축된 작가 고유의 풍경은 일상 속 풍경을 초월한 또 다른 차원의 풍경으로 존재하며, 이러한 지점은 정인혜의 작품이 단순 묘사 이상의 것으로 느껴지는 이유이다. 그녀의 화면은 작가가 구축한 위로의 서사를 발현시키며, 작가의 눈으로 새롭게 표현된 식물들은 차분한 색채와 안정적인 구도로 자연스럽게 어우러져 독특하고 신비로운 생명력을 자아낸다. 평범한 대상을 고유한 조형 언어 일부로 발전시켜 내면의 감성을 표현한 정인혜의 화면은 보는 이에게 익숙함과 신선함을 동시에 선사한다. 이러한 작가의 작업은 국립현대미술관 미술은행(National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, MMCA) 소장되어 있으며, 작가는 에잇세컨즈(8SECONDS), 윤현상재 등 다양한 범주의 브랜드와 협업하며 예술 분야의 경계를 뛰어넘는 활동을 하고 있다.


ATELIER AKI is delighted to present the solo exhibition 《GREEN OASIS》 by Jeong Inhye from July 18 to August 17, 2024, as its first curated exhibition for the second half of the year. Jeong Inhye has consistently explored nature in everyday life, creating works that navigate the boundary between realism and expressionism, with a primary focus on the contemplation of nature in our everyday life. This exhibition marks her first solo show at ATELIER AKI and showcases over 90 paintings that reinterpret the energy and vitality of nature through a unique pictorial language and will debut her new series titled featuring 82 paintings.

The exhibition 《GREEN OASIS》 illuminates Jeong Inhye's distinctive artistic narrative, transforming nature from a mere visual representation into a 'psychological landscape' that metaphorically explores the inner realm. Jeong’s works delve deeply into the depths and complexity of inner thoughts and emotions, showcasing her relentless experimental spirit and artistic inquiry. Jeong Inhye's process begins with nature, viewing it not just as a visual object but as a profound source of inherent energy. Notably, the cacti that frequently appear in her works transcend their roles as mere subjects, evolving into new entities richly imbued with tactile and emotional resonance. The robust forms of the cacti in the artist's new series, "Giant Cactus - Pachycereus," evoke feelings of loneliness and solitude while simultaneously metaphorically revealing the artist's inner resolve and the modern individual's determination to stand firm and survive in today's reality. A notable transformation in Jeong’s new works is her artistic evolution from crafting virtual gardens with plant images to capturing real-life natural scenes the artist has personally experienced, projecting emotions onto tangible subjects and landscapes. This shift unveils the artist's perspective more vividly, embracing painting as a medium to capture and document unique insights through meticulous observation.

The Cactus continues to be a recurring theme in my work. Cacti symbolize strength and resilience for many, and in my paintings, they represent inner fortitude and perseverance. In my latest piece, "Giant Cactus ? Pachycereus," the cactus stands even more colossal and steadfast. Amid the evocation of solitude and loneliness, the cactus reveals the robust ability to endure in nature despite external hardships. / 2024 Jeong Inhye

The series, newly presented through the 《GREEN OASIS》 exhibition, is a series of paintings created from 2023 to 2024 that are closely connected conceptually with the artist's major body of work. These larger-scale works exhibit a richer and more delicate nuance compared to previous works, as the artist conveys synesthetic impressions of nature by capturing trees, surrounding foliage, glimpses of the sky, lingering light, and the movement of the wind. The 82 pieces, capturing everyday moments that are neither traditionally beautiful nor overtly moving, each stand as individual subjects while collectively conjuring the enchantment of a secret garden. The scenes exude a sense of tranquility and romance, where even dry thorns paradoxically evoke a warm, cozy tactile sensation. Jeong’s works, reminiscent of gently caressing nature, diminish the distance between subject and viewer, drawing the audience into an intimate embrace with the natural world.

“I hope you can take a leisurely stroll through the diverse landscapes, appreciating each scene. The works illustrate the transition of seasons, from the end of winter to the warm, blooming spring, and finally to the vibrant energy of summer under the sunlight. The cactus, a prominent element in the works of artist Jeong In-hye (b. 1990, South Korea), manifests in her art through the external impressions she constructs with her gaze. Her landscapes, rooted in internal narratives and emotions, transcend everyday scenes, imbuing her art with a sense of otherworldly dimension. Her canvases convey a narrative of solace, where plants, reimagined through her eyes, blend with serene colors and stable compositions to evoke a unique, mysterious vitality. The artist transforms ordinary subjects into components of her unique visual language, providing viewers with a blend of familiarity and novelty. Jeong’s works are housed in the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) collection, and she continues to engage in cross-disciplinary collaborations with prominent brands such as 8seconds and Yoonhyun Trading.
