갤러리현대는 갤러리현대 두가헌 갤러리(종로구 율곡로1길 23)에서 오는 12월 5일부터 2025년 1월 9일까지 이건용 《Lee Kun-Yong》을 개최한다. 이번 전시에서는 이건용 작가의 대표 연작 〈Bodyscape 76-3〉 2점과 이를 확장한 드로잉 작업 〈 Bodyscape 76-3 Drawing 〉 15점이 소개된다.

〈 Bodyscape 76-3 〉 연작은 작가의 신체적 행위에서 비롯된다. 이건용은 화면을 보지 않고 몸의 방향을 바꾸며 왼손과 오른손을 흔들어 행위의 흔적, 선을 긋는다. 이 과정에서 우연과 의도가 교차하여 하트 모양의 형상이 캔버스 위에 나타난다. 이건용의 〈Bodyscape〉은 신체, 장소, 관계에 대한 독창적인 미학과 사유의 정수가 담긴 연작으로, 미술가로서 ‘그리는’ 행위의 본질이 무엇인가에 대한 성찰을 담아낸다.

Gallery Hyundai is pleased to present Lee Kun-Yong, a solo exhibition of Lee Kun-Yong at Gallery Hyundai Dugahun (23, Yulgok-ro 1-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul) from December 5, 2024, to January 9, 2025. The exhibition showcases two paintings from Lee Kun-Yong's acclaimed Bodyscape 76-3 series alongside fifteen drawings from the extended series, Bodyscape 76-3 Drawing.

The Bodyscape 76-3 series originates from the artist’s physical movements. Without looking at the canvas, Lee shifts his body’s direction while rhythmically moving his left and right hands, creating lines that record the traces of his actions. In this process, chance and intention intertwine, resulting in heart-like shapes on the canvas. This series encapsulates Lee Kun-Yong's distinctive aesthetics and profound reflections on the body, place, and relationships, exploring the very essence of image-making as an artistic act.
