갤러리 담은 2026년 6월, 조각가 양화선의 개인전 《여름, 썸머》를 개최한다. 이번 전시는 작가가 오랜 시간 천착해 온 자연의 물성과 생명의 순환에 대한 탐구를 도자라는 매체를 통해 펼쳐 보이는 자리이다. 흙으로 빚은 형태 위에 유약이 녹아 흘러내리며 만들어 내는 색과 질감은 물이 흐르고 식물이 자라나는 자연의 시간을 고스란히 담아내고 있다.
전시 제목 '여름, 썸머'는 작가에게 가장 내밀하고 충만한 계절로서의 여름을 가리킨다. 옹달샘, 블루홀, 수영장, 한낮의 컨테이너 — 이 구체적이고 감각적인 풍경들이 작품의 출발점이 된다. 물과 식물을 주된 모티프로 삼은 이번 신작들은 생명의 유동성과 은거의 고요함을 동시에 이야기하며, 보는 이를 여름의 시간 속으로 조용히 초대한다.

Gallery Dam is pleased to present Collected Summers, a solo exhibition by sculptor Yang Hwa-sun, in June 2026. This exhibition serves as a profound showcase where the artist expands her long-standing exploration of natural materiality and the cycles of life, utilizing the tactile medium of ceramics.
The colors and rich textures, manifested as glazes melt and flow over clay forms shaped by hand, seamlessly encapsulate the temporal essence of nature—where water currents stream and vegetation thrives. The exhibition title, Collected Summers, points toward summer as the artist's most intimate, radiant, and fulfilling season. Concrete yet sensory landscapes—a mountain spring, a blue hole, a swimming pool in Crema, and a sun-drenched container in the dead of afternoon—serve as the creative points of departure for her works.
Centering on the primary motifs of water and botanical life, these newly unveiled pieces simultaneously converse on the fluidity of vital energy and the serenity of reclusive shelter. In doing so, they gently invite viewers into the quiet suspension of summer time


작가 노트 Artist's Statement

나에게 여름은 옹달샘, 블루홀, 크레마의 수영장, 그리고 한낮의 컨테이너의 햇살이다.
이번 전시의 주제는 물과 식물이다. 물은 끊임없이 흐르고 솟아오르며 샘솟는 유동적이며 영속적인 존재다. 한 여름의 긴 도보여행 끝에 만나는 옹달샘은 생명과 감동, 신비 그 자체다. 근원을 알 수 없는 깊은 곳에서 쉼 없이 솟아오르는 물의 덩이들과 흐느적거리며 유동하는 푸른색과 녹색의 수초들. 또한 푸른 바다의 깊은 곳에 형성된 바닷속의 싱크 홀, 블루홀과 세노테. 산자락의 옹달샘과 세상에서 가장 깊은 곳 바다의 웅덩이 블루홀은 솟아오르고 흐르고 흘러 현재와 미래의 생명을 지탱해 주는 본질적인 존재이다. 물은 생명의 에너지들이 자유롭게 흐르도록 하는 생명의 유체다.
컨테이너(container)는 주로 논이나 밭, 공장지대, 야산에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 쇠로 만든 창고다. 이미 쓸모를 다한 사각형의 상자는 시간이 흐르며 버려져서 녹슬고 망가지고 잊혀진 존재로서 존재한다. 그러나 이 버려진 상자는 갈 곳 없는 성가신 존재들에게는 더없는 안식처가 된다. 많은 생명들은 컨테이너의 벽과 틈새와 지붕, 창문의 열린 사이로 넘어와 덩굴을 뻗어 올리고 꽃을 피우는 당차고 씩씩한 이곳의 진정한 주인들이다. 컨테이너는 논이나 밭에서 자라나는 온갖 식물들의 안식처이자 생명을 품는 소중한 존재로서 버려진 듯, 그러나 당당하게 흘러가는 시간을 견디며 소멸해 간다.

To me, summer is encapsulated by a mountain spring, a blue hole, the swimming pool in Crema, and the intense midday sunlight striking a cargo container. The overarching theme of this exhibition revolves around water and plants. Water is a fluid, everlasting presence—constantly flowing, surging, and springing forth. A tiny spring encountered at the end of a long, midsummer trek is nothing short of life, profound emotion, and mystery itself. It reveals massed volumes of water relentlessly welling up from unfathomable depths, interspersed with blue and green water plants swaying in a fluid dance.
My inspiration also traces down to blue holes and cenotes—those deep marine sinkholes formed in the abyssal depths of the azure sea. A secluded spring tucked away in a mountain ridge, and a blue hole nestled in the deepest chasm of the ocean: both are elemental sanctuaries that surge, flow, and ultimately sustain the life of both our present and future. Water is the vital fluid of existence that allows life's energies to circulate with absolute freedom.
On the other hand, the "container" represents a corrugated iron warehouse commonly spotted in rice paddies, farm fields, industrial zones, or wild hillsides. Having already outlived its utilitarian purpose, this rectangular iron box exists as a forgotten relic—rusting, weathering, and breaking down over time. Yet, this abandoned structure transforms into an irreplaceable haven for marginalized, restless lives. Countless living things cross over the container’s walls, crevices, rooftops, and open window gaps, boldly weaving their vines and bursting into flower. They are the true, resilient masters of this place. The container acts as a precious sanctuary that embraces life and harbors the vegetation sprawling from nearby fields. Though appearing discarded, it endures the passage of time with quiet dignity as it gradually fades toward dissolution.
