이길이구 갤러리는 2026년 6월 13일부터 7월 11일까지 《풍경 미수 風景未遂 – Almost Landscape》 전시를 개최한다. 이번 전시는 5인의 작가로 김연용(b.1973), 노충현(b.1970), 서동욱(b.1974), 안두진(b.1975), 정용국(b.1972) 이다.

다섯 작가의 회화를 통해, 동시대 회화에서 풍경이 더 이상 완결된 재현의 대상이 아니라 끊임없이 흔들리고 유예되는 상태로 존재하는 방식을 조망한다. 작가들은 사실성과 무관하게 각자의 리얼리티를 추구하지만, 그 과정은 필연적으로 혼란을 동반한다. 이들 역시 자신만의 이상을 향해 나아가지만, 끝내 도달하지 못한 채 끊임없이 갈등한다. 화면은 특정 장소와 장면을 암시하면서도 하나의 고정된 풍경으로 수렴되지 않으며, 재현과 추상, 감각과 기억 사이를 오가는 이미지들은 생성과 해체를 반복한다. 이번 전시는 그러한 회화적 과정 속에서 ‘미수의 풍경’에 이르는 여정을 따라간다.

전시 제목인 ‘풍경 미수(風景未遂)’는 풍경이 되려다 멈춘 상태, 혹은 풍경을 넘어선 어떤 가능성을 의미한다. 여기서 ‘미수’는 실패라기보다, 끝내 완결될 수 없기에 지속되는 감각과 인식의 상태를 가리킨다. 작가들에게 풍경은 단순한 외부 세계의 묘사가 아니라, 현실과 기억, 물질과 심리가 교차하는 불안정한 감각의 구조에 가깝다. 회화는 완성된 장면을 제시하기보다, 도달 직전의 흔들림과 긴장을 드러내는 장으로 기능한다.

김연용(b.1973)은 감각의 구조와 이미지 내부의 관계를 탐구하며, 이미지가 형성되고 인식되는 과정을 지속적으로 질문한다. 그의 작업은 이미지를 인물, 풍경, 사물의 단순한 재현이 아닌 감각과 사유가 교차하는 장으로 바라본다. 중첩된 이미지의 조각과 레이어, 긴장감 있는 화면 구성 속에서 현실과 비현실의 경계는 유동적으로 교차하며 새로운 지각의 가능성을 드러낸다. 한국예술종합학교 미술원 교수로 재직 중인 그는 회화의 개념적 가능성과 물질적 조건을 동시에 탐색해오며 동시대 회화 담론 안에서 독자적인 위치를 구축해왔다.

노충현(b.1970)은 도시의 주변부와 오래된 골목, 재개발 지역과 같은 일상의 장면들을 특유의 침잠된 시선으로 포착해왔다. 익숙하지만 쉽게 사라지는 풍경들은 그의 화면 안에서 시간의 흔적과 정서적 밀도를 품은 심리적 공간으로 전환된다. 작가는 도시의 변화 속에서 미처 기록되지 못한 장면들을 담담하게 응시하며, 풍경 안에 축적된 기억과 감정의 층위를 회화적으로 드러낸다.

서동욱(b.1974)은 회화의 물질성과 감각적 리듬에 주목하며, 재현과 추상의 경계를 넘나드는 작업을 이어오고 있다. 중첩되는 붓질과 색채, 화면의 흐름은 구체적 형상을 암시하면서도 동시에 해체하며, 풍경을 하나의 고정된 장면이 아니라 생성 중인 감각의 상태로 환원시킨다. 그의 작업에서 화면은 특정 장소를 묘사하기보다, 회화가 스스로 형성되고 흔들리는 과정을 드러내는 공간으로 기능한다.

안두진(b.1975)은 유기적 형상과 흐름, 생명체를 연상시키는 이미지들을 통해 현실과 비현실 사이를 유영하는 회화적 세계를 구축해왔다. 그의 화면 안에서 형상들은 끊임없이 생성되고 사라지며, 자연과 신체, 풍경과 감각의 경계는 느슨하게 뒤섞인다. 작가는 회화를 고정된 이미지가 아닌 살아 움직이는 감각의 상태로 다루며, 불안정하고 유동적인 현실 인식을 화면 위에 펼쳐낸다.

정용국(b.1972)은 동양화의 전통적 감각과 여백의 개념을 동시대 회화 언어로 전환하며 자연 풍경을 새롭게 사유해왔다. 번짐과 중첩, 비워낸 공간 사이로 드러나는 풍경의 흔적들은 구체적 장소를 재현하기보다 시간과 기억, 사유의 흐름을 암시한다. 그의 작업은 익숙한 자연의 형상을 해체하고 재배치하며, 풍경을 내면의 감각과 정신적 공간으로 확장시킨다. 현재 영남대학교 회화과 교수로 재직 중인 그는 전통 수묵의 감각을 현대 회화의 맥락 안에서 지속적으로 갱신해오고 있다.

《풍경 미수 風景未遂 – Almost Landscape》는 완결된 풍경의 제시가 아니라, 풍경이 되어가는 과정 속에서 발생하는 불안과 감각, 그리고 끝내 도달하지 못한 상태 자체를 드러내는 전시다. 서로 다른 방향성과 밀도를 지닌 다섯 작가의 작업은 하나의 결론으로 수렴되지 않은 채 병치되며, 오늘날 회화가 머무는 불완전한 감각의 지형을 보여준다.


2GIL29 GALLERY is pleased to present Almost Landscape, on view from June 13 through July 11, 2026. The exhibition brings together five artists — Yeon-Yong Kim (b.1973), Choong-Hyun Roh (b.1970), Dong-Wook Suh (b.1974), Doo-Jin Ahn (b.1975), and Yong-Guk Jung (b.1972). Through their paintings, the exhibition examines how landscape in contemporary painting no longer functions as a completed object of representation, but instead exists in a constantly shifting and suspended state.

Regardless of factual representation, the artists pursue their own realities, yet such pursuits inevitably entail confusion and conflict. Each artist moves toward a personal ideal, though never fully arrives. Their images suggest places and scenes while refusing to settle into fixed landscapes. Oscillating between representation and abstraction, sensation and memory, the paintings continuously repeat processes of construction and dissolution. The exhibition traces this journey toward what may be called an “almost landscape.”

The title Almost Landscape refers to something that halted in the process of becoming a landscape, or perhaps something that exceeds the very notion of landscape itself. Here, “almost” does not signify failure, but rather a condition of perception and sensation that persists precisely because it can never be fully resolved. For these artists, landscape is less a depiction of the external world than an unstable structure where reality, memory, materiality, and psychology intersect. Painting functions not as the presentation of a complete scene, but as a site that reveals tension, hesitation, and states of becoming.

Yeon-Yong Kim (b.1973) explores the structures of painting and the internal relationships within the pictorial surface, continuously questioning the processes through which images are formed and perceived. Approaching landscape not as visual representation but as a system of sensation and thought, his works move fluidly between reality and unreality through layered compositions and unstable structures. Currently a professor at the School of Visual Arts, Korea National University of Arts, Kim has established a distinctive position within contemporary painting discourse through his simultaneous investigation of conceptual and material conditions of painting.

Choong-Hyun Roh (b.1970) has long depicted urban peripheries, aging alleyways, and redevelopment districts through a characteristically contemplative gaze. Familiar yet disappearing landscapes transform into psychological spaces imbued with traces of time and emotional density. His paintings attempt to hold onto fleeting urban scenes, though the places depicted remain suspended between memory and reality, never fully fixed as complete landscapes.

Dong-Wook Suh (b.1974) focuses on the materiality and rhythmic sensibility of painting, navigating the boundary between representation and abstraction. Layers of brushstrokes and flows of color suggest concrete forms while simultaneously dismantling them, reducing landscape into a condition of sensation still in formation. Rather than describing a specific place, his canvases reveal painting itself as an unstable process of emergence and collapse.

Doo-Jin Ahn (b.1975) constructs painterly worlds that drift between reality and unreality through organic forms and biomorphic imagery. Within his paintings, forms continuously emerge and disappear, while boundaries between nature, body, landscape, and sensation dissolve into one another. Treating painting as a living state of sensation rather than a fixed image, Ahn visualizes unstable and fluid perceptions of reality.

Yong-Guk Jung (b.1972) reinterprets traditional notions of East Asian landscape painting through a contemporary painterly language. Through stains, overlaps, and emptied spaces, traces of landscape emerge not as depictions of specific places, but as evocations of memory, temporality, and contemplation. His paintings deconstruct and rearrange familiar natural imagery, expanding landscape into an interior and psychological realm. Currently a professor in the Department of Painting at Yeungnam University, Jung continues to renew the sensibility of traditional ink painting within the context of contemporary art.

Almost Landscape does not present completed landscapes, but rather reveals the anxiety, sensation, and unresolved states that arise in the process of becoming landscape. The five artists’ works, each carrying distinct directions and densities, remain unresolved and suspended rather than converging into a singular conclusion, collectively mapping the unstable terrain of contemporary painting.
