갤러리현대는 박민준 작가의 개인전 《X》를 오는 12월 21일부터 2023년 2월 5일까지 개최한다.

박민준은 신화적인 서사를 지닌 매력적인 이야기를 창작하고, 이에 등장하는 광대, 서커스 단원 등 다양한 캐릭터를 고전 회화를 연상시키는 세세하고 정밀한 회화적 필법으로 생생히 캔버스에 옮겨 그리는 작업을 지속해 오고 있다. 회화와 소설이 밀접한 관계를 맺으며 탄생한 신비로운 분위기를 간직한 그의 작품은 삶의 내밀한 풍경을 새로운 시각에서 바라보도록 안내한다.

박민준의 《X》는 작가의 10번째 개인전을 기념한다. 전시 제목 ‘X’는 숫자 10, 미지의 세계, 작가의 과거 연작과 신작이 연결되어 하나의 세계관을 이루는 ‘컬래버레이션’ 등 다층적 의미를 품고 있다.

천재 곡예사인 형 라포와 평범한 동생 라푸의 이야기를 중심으로 라포스 서커스 속 단원들의 별난 사연을 담은 <라포르 서커스(Rappore Circus)>, 삶/죽음, 남자/여자, 음/양, 시작/끝 등 세계의 대칭성을 숫자에 비유한 <두 개의 깃발(Two Flags)> 등 대표 연작을 포함해, 두 연작을 포용하는 동시에 표현 기법과 조형성을 실험한 , 16-18세기 이탈리아에서 유행한 즉흥극에서 영감받은 캐릭터가 등장하는 <콤메디아 델라르테(Commedia dell’Arte)> 등의 새로운 연작까지 전시에 함께 소개한다.

《X》는 회화 및 조각 30여 점과 작가가 집필한 소설과 대사를 통해 기존 작업의 연장선에서 중첩되며 다양하게 변주되는 박민준의 광범위한 작품 세계를 집약해 살펴보는 자리가 될 것이다.

Park Minjoon creates absorbing stories with mythical narratives and continues to make hyper-realistic paintings of various characters, such as clowns and circus members, on canvas with detailed and precise pictorial strokes reminiscent of the classical paintings. His work, which embraces the mysterious atmosphere aroused as the paintings and novel(s) closely related to one another, guides us to look at the introspective scenery of life from a new perspective.

Park Minjoon’s X commemorates the artist's 10th solo exhibition. The exhibition title "X" has multiple meanings, including the number 10, the unknown world, and "collaboration," connecting the artist's past series and new works into a single worldview.

Rappore Circus, the series about the whimsical stories of the members of Rappore Circus, focusing on the genius acrobat brother Rapo and the ordinary younger brother Rapu, and another representative series Two Flags which compares the symmetry of the world, such as life/death, man/woman, yin/yang, start/end, and more, to number, and X, which embraces the two aforementioned series while experimenting with expressive techniques and formability; and the new series Commedia dell'Arte featuring characters inspired by the improvisation theatre popular in Italy between the 16th to 18th century are all introduced in this exhibition.

X will offer an opportunity to look into the wide-ranging world of the artist, which overlaps and varies as an extension of existing work through about 30 paintings and sculptures, as well as the dialogues and a novel written by the artist.
