하나의 시선

인간은 정도의 차이는 있겠지만 대부분 자신의 가치관에 따라 정보를 처리하고 판단한다.
그것은 타인이나 사건, 사물 등을 바라보는 관점에서 뿐 아니라 자기 자신을 바라보는 관점에서도 적용된다. 특히나 자기 자신을 바라보고 판단하는 관점에서의 왜곡이 더 강하게 나타날 것이라고 본다. 이러한 자기인식은 스스로를 과도하게 고평가 하거나 반대로 과도하게 폄하하는 일들을 자주 야기한다. 스스로 그러한 왜곡된 판단을 인식하지 못한다면 아마도 삶이 다 하는 날까지 본질적인 자신을 모르는 채로 소멸하게 될 것이다.
나는 작가로서 나의 작업을 준비하는 과정에서 이 왜곡을 발견했다. 자기인식 속 자아는 곱게 포장되어 있거나 아무렇게나 방치되어 있었다. 이 혼란스러운 발견으로 나는 이 왜곡을 벗어나 본질적인 자아를 만나는 것이 작가로서, 또 한 인간으로서 가장 먼저 해야 할 일이라고 판단했다.
나는 작업을 통해 포장되었던 인식을 벗어나고 나를 향한 왜곡된 시선을 거두기를 희망했다.
작품 속에서 조우하는 나 자신은 때로는 초라하고 때로는 기괴하고 대부분 어둡지만 내손을 통하여 시각화 된 ‘나’들은 나에게 그 또한 너 자신이라고 이야기 한다. 이 일련의 과정들로 나를 향한 왜곡된 인식을 정화하고 본질적인 자아를 존중하고 사랑하게 될 것이다.



HANA's view

Humans, to varying degrees, process information and make judgments based on their values.

This applies not only to how one perceives others, events, and objects, but also to how one sees and judges oneself. Distortions in self-perception tend to be particularly strong, often causing one to overestimate or, on conversely, undervalue oneself. If one fails to recognize these skewed judgments, they may live their entire life without ever truly knowing their essential self, only to vanish at the end.

I discovered this distortion while preparing for my work as an artist. The self I observed in my own perception was either neatly packaged or left utterly neglected. This unsettling realization led me to conclude that, as both an artist and a human being, the most urgent task is to break free from these distortions and confront my essential self.

Through my work, I hope to strip away the layers of packaging and shed the distorted views of myself.

The selves I encounter in my works are often frail, sometimes grotesque, and mostly dark. Yet, these visualized representations of ‘myself’ tell me: “This too is you.” Through this process, I will purify my distorted self-perception and come to respect and love my true, essential self.
