김선영 작가는 레진을 소재로 흡사 부조 같은 납작한 형상을 빚는다. 그 형상은 버선(여성의 성적 정체성을 상징하는) 같기도 하고 배(삶의 메타포) 같기도 하다. 그리고 핸드백이나 손지갑 같은 형상을 빚는다. 그 형상들의 윗부분에는 어김없이 소금 (대리석)이 담겨져 있는데, 여기서 소금은 그 상징적 의미가 빛과 통한다. 즉 빛이 어두운 세상을 밝혀준다면 소금은 세상을 정화시킨다. 작업의 밑바닥에 일종의 기독교적 메타포가 작용하고 있음을 말해주는 대목이다. 그리고 그 근저에 여성성 내지는 여성의 성적 정체성이 흐른다. 이를테면 버선이나 핸드백 그리고 손지갑 같은 소재에서 뿐만 아니라, 하나같이 살색으로 나타난 색감이 주는 부드럽고 우호적인 느낌이 그렇다.

Sunyoung Kim makes the flat object – similar a sculpture in relief- in use of resin material. The objects look like a Busun- Korean woman’s traditional socks, symbolizing women’s sexual identity, and a small boat, expressing life metaphorically.
She creates the object like a handbag or a pulse. There is always salt on top of every works. The salt here, is made from marble. The salt purifies the world, like the light brightens the dark world in the Bible. Christianity underlies much of her works. Also, there is the flow of femininity and the female sexual identity in her works. The femininity is not only shown in the theme such as Busun, handbags and purses, but also appears in the choice of the artist to use the color of the human flesh, which leaves a soft and friendly impression to the viewers.
