소개말

I portray mental landscapes at the crossroads between the conscious and the unconscious like in a memory or a dream, based on specific incidents and situations which I collect in reality. I focus primarily on trying to awaken my senses that have been dulled by my day-to-day life and try to rely on the feelings and thoughts that occur in the process of living my routine life. I also freely move beyond the lines of reality and the world of the surreal, giving diverse artistic imaginations to realistic subject matter. The series of unfamiliar images that sometimes appear barren and dreamlike was born out of a process where I possess and produce these images, floating freely over the space I create. In my series of work stemming from the unconscious horrors that have been inherent in my inner self over a long period of years, I discover these fears somewhere in my consciousness and try to obliterate or recompose them one by one, representing them in paintings or dealing with them as a mass.

Randomly selected images from tabloids, TV programs, posters, and advertisements are filtered and modified through my work. Two or three stories that seem never associated with each other have a new relation. An invisible connection among them is involved in my work and myself like a spider web. To look back on myself in the place of the other, namely to talk about the otherness provides an opportunity to think over what I have experienced and known of in reverse. This otherness is something we encounter when moving from one group to another heterogeneous group.

Living in the 21st century the East and West and the old and new coexist in myself , I discover and renew my understanding of myself by collecting, modifying and communicating previously incommunicable, differently perceived narratives, going beyond the lines between myself and others. The objects to which my imagination brings life present an expanded alternative, moving beyond the boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces.
